Wisdom and Understanding
Hey guys, it has been a while. Let us get back in the flow of things again. =)
Job 28:28
And he said to man,
'The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
and to shun evil is understanding.'
This verse very successfully brings out the difference between wisdom and understanding.
The fear of the Lord is wisdom. We've talked about this before, about what the fear of the Lord is. It is not the same as the fear which we commonly know of which is aroused by anxiety.
The fear of God is a deep reverence which is translated into our daily lives.
In the context of this verse, Job expounded on his understanding of wisdom. But I would like to draw your attention to the last portion of the verse.
"... to shun evil is understanding."
When we live by God's standards, there are things which we desire to cut off from our lives. One of the main things would be evil thoughts.
As Uncle Jeff said on Sunday's sermon, "The basis of your thoughts determines the outcome of your actions."
Do you see something in your behaviour that you wish you could change? Begin with your thoughts. Shun evil and then you will begin to put your wisdom into action.

look beyond ourselves; by reaching out to unbelievers, as well as grooming the younger ones whom we have an influence over.
